PC George: The uncrowned king of Poonjar

PC George: The uncrowned king of Poonjar

The people of Poonjar once again made it clear that their MLA will be PC George irrespective of whichever front he aligns with.  All eyes were on this constituency as a powerful quadrangular contest was taking place here. Even though the UDF and LDF did not accommodate him, George proved that the people will not forsake him by winning by a margin of 27, 821 votes.
While George received 63, 621 votes, Kerala Congress (M) candidate Georgekutty Augusty got 35, 800 votes only.  LDF candidate and former Kerala Congress MLA PC Joseph got 22, 270 votes. BJDS candidate MR Ullas received 19, 966 votes to secure the fourth place. PC George, became the lone man against others, when after the dissensions with KM Mani, he supported the anti-corruption front in the Aruvikkara elections.

However, the candidate in Aruvikkara got less votes than the NOTA and lost in the elections.  George also lost the Chief Whip post after he was thrown out of the party and the front after he quarrelled with Mani. Though he revitalized Kerala Congress (Secular), he left the party following disputes with its Chairman TS John.
As George did not get LDF support, he decided to contest as an independent candidate in the assembly elections.  PC George became the Poonjar MLA the first time in 1980.
He won in 1982 also as Kerala Congress (J) candidate and lost in 1987 as a candidate of the same party. He did not enter the poll fray in 1991.
From 1996, PC George has been the uncrowned king in Poonjar.
Though  he had changed fronts after 1996, he has not tasted defeat in the elections. He won as Kerala Congress (J) candidate in 1996 and 2001 elections.
He formed the Kerala Congress (Secular) in 2006 and won with the support of LDF.  George, who defeated Kerala Congress (M) in the aforesaid elections , won as the Kerala Congress (M) candidate in 2011.  George's stand against UDF's Anto Antony in the last Loksabha elections had increased the chances of his defeat.
However, the results have proved that the people of Poonjar are with PC George
